Paul’s Learning Journey – Commentary on Video of 18 & 19 Feb 2014 Part 1

Here is the second series that Paul recorded. In both videos there are some parts that are OK and some parts that are off. If he could combine the good parts that would be nice.

But I have to remember this is the beginning of Paul’s journey and he is seeking the way so I need to moderate my expectations.

Readers must be wondering what’s up with the focus on Beginning Posture. Seems to be making a mountain out of a molehill.

Well, it depends on how you look at it. Our objective is not to perform Tai Chi Chuan in accordance to “teacher says“, “friends says“, “I think its this way“, etc. Instead, our objective is to play Tai Chi in adherence to the principles laid out in The Tai Chi Classics. Some may think this is not possible whilst others may think there is no point to it. Our opinion is that the principles capture the essence of what Tai Chi Chuan is about.

So if we can’t actualize the principles in form, push hands and combat applications then we are not doing Tai Chi and if we claim we are then we are lying to ourselves.
